Tampa Bay Buccaneers endured some significant roster changes as they prepare for the 2025 season.
Winner: QB Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield, who has earned Pro Bowl honors in the last two seasons, has revitalized his career with the Buccaneers. Heading into 2025, however, he faces the challenge of working with a new offensive coordinator while being without star left tackle Tristan Wirfs and wide receiver Chris Godwin for the initial stages of the season.
In a positive turn, both Wirfs and Godwin have been activated from the Physical Unable to Perform (PUP) list and will be part of the 53-player roster to start the season. Had they remained on the PUP list, each player would have missed a minimum of four games.
While Mayfield may not have access to either Wirfs or Godwin in the season opener, there is optimism that both could return within the first month of play.

Loser: QB Kyle Trask
Just a few offseasons prior, Mayfield found himself in competition with Kyle Trask, the team’s 2021 second-round draft pick, for the starting quarterback position. Since then, Mayfield has solidified his role, leaving Trask to spend the last two seasons preparing for a potential opportunity should Mayfield falter or face an injury.
