Hosted by Jimmy Fallon in a late-night talk show format, the event featured appearances from notable figures in media and sports, as well as Google experts, showcasing the company’s latest innovations in an engaging manner.
The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL have been officially revealed, much to no one’s surprise. Nevertheless, it was gratifying for fans to have confirmed information regarding these new devices. Preorders started today, with the phones set to hit stores and begin shipping on August 28.
The event also highlighted the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which advances the folding phone market. This device boasts an IP68 rating, marking a significant improvement in dust and water resistance, a critical upgrade for foldables.
Additionally, the Pixel Watch 4 was introduced, offering new fitness tracking features that provide real-time exercise guidance. Impressively, it can detect when users forget to start a workout and alert them for credit on their activity. This smartwatch stands out as the only model capable of detecting a loss of pulse and automatically contacting emergency services. Its design echoes previous models but includes an upgraded domed screen that is 50% brighter than its predecessor.
New to the market, the Pixel Buds 2a offer a budget-friendly option for wireless earbuds at $130. They include active noise cancellation and a twist-to-adjust stabilizer for enhanced comfort.
Owners of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 can expect a software update next month with features that allow answering calls or sending them to voicemail via head gestures. The update will also enable users to interact with Gemini in noisy environments while implementing adaptive audio functionality.
A standout feature presented was Magic Cue, powered by Gemini, which personalizes user interactions with software by discreetly organizing important information extracted from previous messages and emails. Importantly, this data remains on the device to protect user privacy.
Looking ahead, Rick Osterloh, senior vice president of platforms and devices, discussed future applications of Gemini, expressing optimism about forthcoming features. He noted, “A lot sooner than people think,” when asked about the timeline for features like planning events or reservations.
The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL devices impress with their Pro Res Zoom capabilities, allowing for a zoom function that enhances detail even beyond 30x. This uses generative AI technology, which was demonstrated through photos taken in Paris.
Another innovation, Camera Coach, utilizes AI to enhance photography by offering real-time suggestions to capture better images. During a live demonstration, the feature provided guidance to enhance framing and overall photo quality.
In terms of charging, the Pixel 10 supports the Qi2 standard, which facilitates not only faster charging but also magnetic connections to accessories. Google brands this feature as Pixelsnap, linking it to similar functionality used in Apple’s ecosystem.
